► i want to withdraw from hostel and want the remaining fees to be adjusted in tuition fees of next academic year. i am in navi mumbai and have been very ill. i have submitted proofs of medical consultation papers with college doctor and photos of food with insect due to which i want to leave, but college is private is saying it has 1 rule, no adjustments no refunds. but this rule was never communicated to students.

If the college has a written prospectus or handbook clearly stating that no refund and no adjustment will be made then there is little space for you to get any adjustment of the amount. But if such rule was never communicated in advance to the students then the institute cannot unilaterally deny refund or adjustment. What you can do:

1. Send a written representation (mail) to the college authorities attaching medical papers, photos of unhygienic food, requests for refund/adjustment. Additionally, send a mail to the concerned educational authority (UGC/AICTE) depending on college affiliation.

2. Send a legal notice to through a lawyer to the institute clearly demanding for refund or adjustment of the said amount within 7 to 15 days.

3. If the institute does not respond within the timeframe mentioned in the legal notice, then you can file a consumer complaint for refund plus compensation for harassment.
