Dear Client,

Under the legislation of India, victims of domestic violence can find relief mainly under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 (PWDVA). You can approach the Magistrate, a Protection Officer, or the local police for filing an application. The PWDVA offers important civil law remedies enabling you to obtain protection orders against the wrongdoer, finances, and the right to stay in the household. In addition, any crime can be charged as per Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (previously known as IPC), like Section 498A, based on the gravity of the cruelty. I hope this answer helps. If you have any further query kindly do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you

Dear Madam,

Under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, domestic violence includes:

Physical abuse (beating, pushing, threats)

Verbal & emotional abuse (insults, humiliation, intimidation)

Economic abuse (denial of money, property, essentials)

Sexual abuse

Harassment by any family member in a shared household (not only husband)

You do not need to leave the house to take action.
